Dauda Adeyemo
My name is Dauda Adeyemo. I am the youngest of five from the village of Ofatedo, Nigeria. My mother is a trader and my father, a farmer. Like my father, I grew up farming. However, I knew it was not what I wanted to spend my life doing.
Following in the footsteps of my older brother Gasali, I became interested in art at a young age. My brother Gasali studied at the Nike Center for Arts and Culture; he often would come home and show me what he had learned. My mother and father also nurtured my artistic interest; my father taught me what he knew about embroidery.
My art is inspired by my life and culture; each of my pieces tells a story. My culture is rich in history and tradition, in my art I tell the stories of our festivals, animals, hunters, farmers, history, and daily life.
I currently reside in Ede, Nigeria. I work on my art in my studio and I do commission work, such as quilts and embroidery pieces for tourists that come to my town. Each person that purchases a piece of my art takes a little piece of my culture home with them.
Work not discounted.
